In this video, my team consisted of Michelle Berry, Daniell McCleney, and Christopher Perez. When we arrived at our speaker's apartment, we noticed the lighting scenario wasn't the greatest. We found the best room where there wouldn't be glare and also enough natural light. Choosing the right space first set the visual tone for the whole interview.
We had some initial shots already in our heads weeks before, so we proceeded with setting up the cameras in that fashion. Pre-visualizing the framing in advance let us move quickly on-site and stay focused on directing the speaker rather than improvising compositions on the fly.
We then attached a billet mic on our speaker and tested audio to make sure it was clear enough and not "clipping." Michelle then began rehearsing the questions with her, and we began to film. The rehearsal pass let our speaker get comfortable with the prompts so the captured takes felt closer to a real conversation.
Overall, these videos would take a couple of weeks to plan, around one or two hours to shoot, and a couple of weeks for post-production and review. While working with FAMLI, I made one other video with this team as well — and that pace became the working rhythm for the broader testimonial series.
